Dear Diary...
Okay...here´s my report from the wine-harvest..it mostly holds basic infos, like when, what, how long and stuff about the weather. I only added a few things that happend to me as well.
If anyone of you has questions about something, don´t hesitate to ask!
Oh and..there are some types of grapes I didn´t know the english words for, they are mostly Austrian grapes and not so well known internationally. I still hope you like my loooong report and that you are having a little fun reading it! ;)

Fr, Sat & Sun = nice & warm fall weather...

Sunday, September, 13th:
It started to rain in the evening and I´ m talking about heavy rain here... great, I suppose there won´ t be any wine yard-action at all tomorrow. :(

Monday, Sept. 14th:
Still a lot of  rain.. it´ s misty and dark like it´ s November. The grapes will start to rot if it doesn´t stop soon. Watching Buffy S2 with my little cousin Anna instead. ;)

Tuesday, Sept. 15th:
No rain today. We´ ll wait until after lunch to start with the harvest.
We were picking grapes from 1:00 pm to 6:45 pm today...will be continued tomorrow. It actually had a bit of sunshine today.. *tries to be optimistic*

Wednesday, Sept. 16th:
7:30 am -   1:30 pm
YAY! We´ re finished with part 1. Due to the hail and some really gourmet-like deer, we only had less than the half harvest output of last year in this part of the wine-yard.
Type(s) of grape: Mueller -Thurgau

At least it was a warm, almost hot day, I even got sunburned on my neck.
Now we´ re going back home for a few days...more to come next week.
little edit: I´ m home now and it´ s raining cats and dogs. Shit!

Monday, Sept. 21st:
7:30 am - 6:15 pm
Finally it´ s exactly the weather we need. Sun! :)
Grapes are in a bad state..it get´ s worse day by day...we  really need to hurry now!
Type(s) of grape: Pinot blanc

Tuesday, Sept. 22nd:
7:30 am - 6:15 pm
Same as yesterday. Let´ s hope the weather stays that way.
I´ m tired, and there are so many days left...
Type(s) of grape: Muscatel/Chardonnay (Morillon)

Wednesday, Sept. 23rd:
8:40 - 11:40 am
YAY! Only 3 hours of working in the wine-yard!! And it still is hot..25°C (F)?
Seen a mantis today - beautiful creatures..those little fellas are rare these days.
Type(s) of grape: Muscatel

Thursday, Sept. 24th:
7:30 am - 4:30 pm
Suprisingly we finished earlier.. I wasn´ t mad at all..;)  And even more surprising...I didn´ t hurt myself with the scissors yet. YAY me! ;)
Again, it was sunny and warm.
Type(s) of grape: Kerner/Sauvignon

Friday, Sept. 25th:
7:30 am - 4:45 pm
This morning started with light rain...we got pretty wet today. But come lunch the sun was shining again. Phew!  Break until Monday!! ;)
Type(s) of grape: Sauvignon/Pinot blanc

Monday, Sept. 28th:
7:30 am - 6:15 pm
The morning started pretty cold, but it got warm soon. The hours are stretching day by day..I´ m exhausted...*sigh* only a few more days.
Today we learned that we´re going to harvest on Saturday as well..:(
Type(s) of grape: Welsch Riesling, Rhein Riesling

Tuesday, Sept. 29th:
7:30 am - 17:45 pm
Another cold morning. But the weather got better during the day. The grapes got worse though. This special type of grapes was already half rodden..it´ s so annyoing to have to seperate the good grapes from the bad ones. Today hours seemed like days to me. Another day tomorrow. Hopefully we´ re done by lunchtime. I´ m dead tired.
Type(s) of grape: Rhein Riesling

Wednesday, Sept. 30th:
7:30 am - 3:30  pm
Weather started off chilly and wet. I was soaked from the dew on the leafs and grass. But it got sunny and hot after lunch.
Type(s) of grape: Welsch Riesling, Pinot gris

Oh joy! The wonders of changing plans again! First, we didn´t finish at lunchtime, because yay! we did another type of grape! Decision made short term. Second change in plans...my parents and I wanted to go home today (we weren´t at home for almost 2 weeks now) and guess what...the guy that gets the grapes told my uncle that he wants to have the Zweigelt on Friday! So no going home until  Saturday! I´m officially pissed!!!

Edit nr 2: It´s Friday and the day started with heavy rain..so no wine-yard action today - but tomorrow! *growls* I am more than pissed! My parents and I are driving home AND coming back again today. My dad  ran out of  his medication, so he needed to go to the doc. What gave me the opportunity to finally meet with Manu and  get  to see two epis of Supernatural plus one epi of TVD!! YAY! Social contact and my fave shows! I feel human again!  I´ m only half the person I use to be w/o my social contacts.

Saturday, Oct. 3rd:
8:00 am - 5:00 pm

The one half of grapes were half rotten and the other half was unripened - that´ s the ones that grew after the hailstorm in summer.

Today was definitely not my day. Bad luck  Andrea strikes again...this morning I managed to lock the car key IN the car..I closed the tailgate and the key was trapped right in between the trunk door and the rail where the lock is seated. And not only it was trapped there, the door hit exactly the close-button (remote key)! Oh lucky me! *sarcasm inside*  Of course I freaked out and panicked. I had to wait for my uncle to arrive to call my aunt to bring the spare key in my mum´ s bag. Thank  god it opened up again. I was a wreck, I tell you!

And now I don´t want to see a freaking grape anymore! ;)
Type(s) of grape: Zweigelt

Total amount of hours: ~88

It turned out in the end that we only had a third of the amount of last year´s harvest...

Well..that´s about it..I mostly had been too tired to write something more, and tbh, there weren´t a lot of things happening...it´s like getting up and 6:20, having breakfast, going to the wineyard, going back home, doing some other work and go to sleep at 10 pm. Boring, right? ;)

Edit: why did no one tell me that I posted this whole thing twice??? Poor flisty!! *is cracking up*

Hey honey!

Welcome a board! So happy to hear that the harvest is over and now you can come back to your social contacts... No matter that I envy you a little for whole this time in the nature...
Andrea: Jensen huglupina78 on October 6th, 2009 09:46 am (UTC)
Hey sweetie!

Thank you so much!
I´m glad that it´s over, I can tell you! The funny thing is, as long as you don´t have to work, it totally is beautiful there...LOL And if you want to enjoy a little time in the nature..come and visit me!! :)

Social contacts are something essential..I thought I´m dying w/o contact to the "real" world..but I survived it! ;)

To tell you the truth, it sounds like it pretty much sucked...except for the Manu-break and watching Supernatural...:o)
Glad it is over and you are back!!
The cut works for me btw!!!

Andrea: absolutely exhaustedlupina78 on October 6th, 2009 11:42 am (UTC)
HALLELUJA!!Finally someone that understands me!!! *giggles* It´s only fun as long as you do it two or three hours, and then go home sitting at the front porch enjoying the sun..I mean..there are hundreds of jobs that are worse, but it still is hard work and you don´t see the beauty that surrounds you...The Manu-break was keeping me sane, otherwise I would´ve gone mad!
Thank you so much! *cuddles* ♥

It works? Good..then it´s Stephie´s LJ messing it up! ;P

Gee sounds like the heavens really opened up! Rain is good. Heavy rain when you need to harvest is not good. Sorry the weather was so crappy :( And that it was only a third of last year's. And gahh at locking your key in the car. Good thing a relative had a spare!

Andrea: *headdesk*lupina78 on October 7th, 2009 09:00 am (UTC)
Yeah..it really had looked that way at first..but thank god the weather got a lot better afterwards.
*rofl* That´s my special talent..;) But we all had been in a hurry and I didn´t look where the key had been. My aunt brought the spare key that my mum always keeps in her hand bag (which she hadn´t with her that day) - But it always has to happen something when we´re in a hurry..it´s the same year after year, I tell you! *sigh*

I loved it!! Day by day of wine harvest twas awesome!! Good to know your thoughts each day - too bad the harvest wasn't as bountiful as it normally is...

*hugs you*
Andrea: I love you this muchlupina78 on October 8th, 2009 08:13 am (UTC)
Really? Did you read all of it? *is impressed* You´re my hero!! I guess no one else read it all the way through..*giggles* I really should´ve posted it in at least two parts..but it didn´t seem soooo long at first! *hides*

Yeah..it really was sad this year..you have to imagine, you´re picking up less grapes than you leave hanging at the grapevine..that´s just not funny anymore..*sigh* My uncle had been really sad about it..but you can´t do nothing against nature..one time you´re lucky, one time you´re not..

*hugs back*
